VOICE & LAND - A DAY FOR WOMEN OF BRISTOL

The first of our annual Bristol workshops, born from the book and its roots. This is a day for women's voices: the ones that have been quiet, the ones that are loud and misunderstood, and the ones you haven't met yet. I know these voices because I've been there.

Bristol is where I began. It is the first land I knew and the first place my voice ever sounded. My first stages were here. Many lunches at St Nic's Market were had over the years, and many more heartbreaks and lessons. I have carried this work across Kernow and beyond. Now I want to return to the beginning and stand where I started, with women who have read the book (or haven't) and know they are ready to go further, thinking of the words they wish they could say. This is the day we speak them.

In the morning, we gather in circle and work with the voice itself. Breath, sound, story, and the things your voice has been holding back. Nobody will be performing. Everyone will be heard. In the afternoon, we take that voice outside and give it to the land to walk the land, visit the deer and talk to the trees. We listen, and we see what answers.

Women's voices have been quietened here for a very long time, in this city and in every city. Returning to my own beginning feels like the right place to help undo some of that, one voice at a time.

This day is for you if:

    • You have read Devotion and Rebellion and want to be in the room where it comes alive
    • You feel the sharp edges of your voice wanting to break free and be heard
    • You want to awaken your voice with women who have been in the same silence
    • You feel the call to listen and connect to the hidden layers of your own voice

This event is for all women, whatever your experience. You don't need to be a singer, and you don't need to have read the book (though if you have, this is the next layer).

    The venue:

Our magickal location for the day.

Our magickal setting is the original entrance to Ashton Court Estate: the Gatehouse, built c. 1805. A fitting place to step through a threshold.

You'll leave with: A deeper sense of your voice and the voice of the land, no longer as something we ignore but as something living and trustworthy.

    MY VOICE JOURNEY SO FAR

Still curious? Step a little further and discover the story behind the work.

Thirty years' worth of diary entries and vulnerable shares got me to publish my first book. In devotion and rebellion is my voice's journey from childhood right through motherhood and all the voices in between. From the voice of corporate to the voice of the media and our families. We all have voices that we think are our own.
